Jiving for 2025

APPRECIATION

Glynis Wozniak

A lot has happened in the six months since I restructured the company. I have grown a lot in confidence and ability, and whereas I previously thought that I would not be able to manage the mathematical/financial side of things, I have found that I take great delight in creating and sending off invoices and subsequently paying clients and then myself. Who knew?

We have had superb support from Spotlight and Casting Directors, and I have had immense contributions from other agents (a big shout out to Pip at AP Talent Management for being extra helpful with the contractual facts and figures I was not used to. With the additional support of my fabulous clients who sent flowers and messages saying how much they believed in me, I can honestly say that I have never been happier being solely at the helm.

We have had some incredible work these past 6 months, and more direct approaches than we have ever had. We have agency membership with Equity, and I just feel that we are doing so much right.

The bond continues to grow with my team, and I spent a fabulous few days in London seeing Kurt Lucas in Lucky Dog, and with several other clients, saw David J Keogh in Past Tents, which won Best Comedy at the Standing Ovation Awards. What a thrill!

I met up with several clients over several G&T's and smiled my way through London with client Rachel McNally by my side. In 2025, I intend to visit London much more. I have also been networking a lot through Scottish Producers Circle, and I have so much belief in my clients that it is easy to reach out to other industry professionals to highlight my team.

Always thinking on how I can creatively promote my clients, they are busy editing sizzle reels, which are one-minute flashes of their brilliance. Everyone has got 1 minute to spare, right? Some are up on their website profile already, with Martyn Spendlove being the first, followed by Torya Winters.

We have had some pretty fabulous jobs in spite of a general lull in the industry this year, and we go into the new year with several bookings; including 12 voiceover bookings in one day! Lorenza Michelucci-Dunn is off to France on tour for 2 months; Joseph Bradley will be finishing his current tour and then going off for 2 months on tour in England; Cara Watson is on tour in Scotland.

Arthur Thorpe was offered to continue to tour his role in The Very Hungry Caterpillar to Singapore as well as various other theatres throughout the UK; however, has chosen to take his own show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Arthur was my first ever booking as an agent, and it fills me with joy that I am making his dreams come true to be an actor-puppeteer. Colin MacDougall has been cast in a new TV series, and one Young Performer has been cast in a new TV programme; with another being cast in a feature film, so we are seeing real growth in careers.

Diversity in all forms remains important to me, and my heart was filled with gratitude when a client recently shared that she had always tried to change her accent, but 'Glynis loves my accent, and for the first time, I feel seen.'

We continue to have professional development in the agency with a brilliant duologue workshop with the one and only Kevin McNally where clients received amazing feedback from the maestro himself as well as have so much fun. I also learned a lot from our Laura Donnelly workshop who provided valuable insights into industry ethics from a Casting Director's point of view. As the festive season approaches, I have asked my team to create a video in their own language or accent with their favourite Christmas greeting, which I will edit together to share on our socials: expect shenanigans.

Talking about shenanigans, several weeks ago, I came across an inflatable dragon outdoor Christmas decoration. I love dragons! I went home after seeing the price and couldn't sleep wondering if I could make one. With the farmer's help, I now have an 8 foot dragon in my front garden. To some, he may look like a worm; to others a collection of wire fencing covered in bin liners, but to me he is an emblem of comfort and fun. I actually cried when I finished him: how healing for my inner child. Some say s/he (I keep changing my mind) looks better in the night, but with those eyes and that cheeky grin, he's also really cute in the light.

This girl and her dragon leaves you here wishing that you will always feel authentically seen. I wish you joy and connection; copious dragons (or whatever you love); health; wealth; success and abundance in every form. I wish you love and a total sense of the gratitude and appreciation that I feel every night from working with incredible people who do incredible things in this magical industry. I truly feel so blessed.
